I pampered myself the other day. I got a facial. But not just any facial. I got an organic facial at Elements Massage and Bodywork. (I was compensated to write this post, however, I do not review anything that I do not find to be beneficial to my readers). I don’t know if any of you have had a facial before, but it’s pretty spectacular. It’s essentially a 30 minute face massage as the aesthetician works different kinds of scrubs, lotions, and toners on your skin. But, as I was laying there relaxing, I got to thinking how UN-relaxing this would be if the aesthetician were rubbing chemical-laden products on my skin. Ick. No thanks.
At Elements, there’s no need to worry. They use NYR Organic products for their facials. There are no artificial ingredients. The company is cruelty-free, fair trade, and certified organic. After your facial, you can purchase Zuii Organic makeup for your rejuvenated skin. Zuii makeup is made out of flowers! Can’t get much more “all natural” than that! The owner of Elements looked far and wide for a makeup line that met the high standards of the spa and Zuii, an Australian company, rose to the top.
Prefer a massage or a harsh chemical-free manicure or pedicure? Elements offers those services also. No matter what kind of pampering you choose, you can rest easy that your body is not entering toxic overload!
Facials are important in the fall and winter because skin dries out from the wind and that yucky indoor forced air from our heating units. But, don’t do more harm than good by getting a facial that exposes your skin to harsh chemicals.
In addition to skin irritation, toxic chemicals in your beauty products can lead to cancer, infertility, and birth defects! This is serious stuff. We are in the midst of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and few are pointing out that one of our biggest cancer-causing culprits could be part of our daily beauty regimen!
Some of the ingredients you should be avoiding in your facial treatments whether at home or in a spa are:
- Propylene Glycol
- BHT (Butylated Hydroxyanisole)
- Synthetic Fragrances
You can find out more information on why these ingredients (and others) are so harmful in my previous post, 15 Chemicals to Avoid in Bath and Body Products.
If you are in the greater Williamsburg area, I urge you to switch to Elements for all of your spa needs. If you are not a local, promise me you will seek out a spa in your area that offers organic facials and less toxic manicures and pedicures. Or, if you’re planning a vacation to Williamsburg, keep Elements in mind. They are minutes from Colonial Williamsburg! Can you say girls’ weekend?
