Let’s Have Christmas in July!

10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: 14 “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” – Luke 2: 10-14

Let's Have Christmas in July; nativity

Try leaving your nativity out all year so you have a reminder of the joys of Christmas.

I once heard a sermon where the pastor called the congregation to keep Christmas in their hearts all year. He encouraged us to keep a reminder of Christmas in our homes year ’round. I took the sermon to heart and kept my page-a-day calendar memo from December 25 on my bulletin board at work for years. Every time I looked at it, the Christmas reminder would give me a sense of peace, no matter what drama was occurring in the workplace.

Joy. Peace. Love. Hope.

The joy of a prophecy fulfilled. The peace and hope that Jesus’ birth brought to a people who had been waiting for centuries. The love that God had for us that He would send His Son to save the world. All this wrapped up in swaddling clothes – an innocent baby.

Joy. Peace. Love. Hope.

These are the feelings that Christmas stirs in our hearts during the season. Why shouldn’t we want to foster them all year long. We get so wrapped up (pardon the pun) in buying presents and the self-induced stress of the holidays, that we forget to hold these feelings dear in our hearts during the season. As Christians, we are supposed to be a light to the world, just as Jesus was. How can we do this if we are not living with joy, peace, love, and hope? What better time than now to bring joy, peace, love, and hope in our lives. We don’t have the stress of preparing for big family gatherings and gift-giving.

Let’s stir up the warmth of heart that joy, peace, love, and hope give us. Let’s have Christmas in July!

Thank you! It seems like thoughts of Christmas are heartwarming, but the actual Christmas season has become commercial and stressful. It’s so sad. So, why not celebrate now!

What do you think? We'd love to hear your comments!
