Easter is two weeks away. Easter is a joyous time. I love Easter. Right now, we are in the middle of Lent, which is a somber and reflective time. It is meant to be a time during which we reflect on what Christ did for us. HE DIED FOR OUR SINS! We want to be joyous because we see the new life of spring all around us. But, religiously and spiritually, we should never forget the sacrifice of Jesus. Let’s create in ourselves an internal Lenten journey that culminates in the joy of Easter.
I challenge you to read the Gospel verses that correlate with the arrest, trial, and crucifixion of Jesus every day. Rotate between the four Gospel accounts. Then, on Easter Sunday, begin reading the accounts of the Resurrection. Let’s purify our bodies first by reflecting on Jesus’ sacrifice for these next two weeks, then focusing in the joy for the final days of the month. We’ll call it a scripture fast and celebration. We should never forget that Jesus died for our sins and then rose again to open the gates of Heaven for us. Hallelujah!
