On Friday, I had a day of pampering. I don’t usually do such things. I haven’t gotten a pedicure in FOREVER! I tend to go au naturale due to my skin allergy to methylisothiazolinone. There are harsh chemicals in the polish, lotions, and soaps that I don’t really want on my skin, allergy or not.

Then, I found Elements Massage and Bodywork. They take natural, holistic, and green to a new level. When I arrived, I was offered fresh strawberry mint water. To reduce paper waste, there was a basket of towels in the restroom for patrons to dry their hands.
Elements has natural nail care, which is what I found unique about the spa. It’s not just a gimmicky tagline – they take that statement very seriously. Their owner, Samantha, makes all of the salt scrubs herself using organic ingredients. Their masks are all-natural and organic.
They use Zoya nail polish, which is the longest wearing natural polish on the market. Danielle, the woman who gave me my pedicure, said the last pedicure she gave herself lasted 5 weeks!
Zoya polishes and removers are free of toluene, dibutyl phthalate, and formaldehyde. There is only one time I want formaldehyde, a human carcinogen, on my body and that’s when I’m dead (And maybe not even then. I’m hoping by the time I die, green burial options will be more prevalent). Toluene and dybutyl phthalate are linked to cancer, hormone disruption, and allergies.
Elements uses bowls for the foot soak instead of those chairs with the jets that are commonly used at the “run ’em through” nail places. Bacteria and mold can grow in the pipes of those chairs, causing horrible skin infections. You don’t have to worry about that at Elements.
For me, natural nail care is the only way.
I also received a massage on my day of pampering. Massage detoxifies and relaxes the body. It helps to relax our muscles. Massage is not just about pampering yourself. It is about your general health and well being, both physically and mentally.
At Elements, they use hypoallergenic oils and lotions, including apricot oil. Elements offers couples massage, Thai massage, fertility/pregnancy massage, facials, waxing, spa packages, and more. They are minutes from Colonial Williamsburg. So, whether you live in Hampton Roads or are vacationing in the area, check out Elements for resort-quality services at affordable prices. Tell them The Wellness Wife sent you!
If a trip to Williamsburg isn’t in the cards, I implore you to research natural nail care in your area before getting another manicure or pedicure. That mani-pedi with the girls just isn’t as fun when you consider the exposure to hormone disruptors and flesh-eating bacteria!
